Of late, the topic of immigration ‘ whether legal or illegal ‘ after increased terrorist activities, has been a big issue with lawmakers in the western world.
The UK Independence Party has assured to halt all immigration for five years until ‘proper controls’ on people entering the country had been implemented.
Immigration is indispensable for economic stability and growth of any country; however, it has taken a different shape in the new age of globalization and free movement apparently forcing countries to think over taking stringent measures.

Yes its good for the society as more immigrants mean more opportunity for terrorists, drug dealers, and other criminals to enter the country as immigrants, especially the poorer ones, as they consume a high amount of government resources (health care, education, welfare, etc.) without paying a corresponding high rate of taxes. Moreover, the national identity and language is also suffering because of this. The great ”melting pot” is being replaced by divisive multi-culturism and less-skilled American citizens earn less money and have fewer job opportunities because they must compete with immigrants in the job market.

NO… they are, by no means, good for society. Some of the most intelligent and ambitious individuals, who are unsatisfied with their own countries, bring their skills to America. It increases the diversity and expands the culture of the country. Immigrants often taken the low-paying jobs (like food service & hotel cleaning) that most Americans don’t want to do at such low wages. Decreasing or eliminating legal immigration will inevitably create more incentive to come to the country illegally, which leads to less assimilation and fewer taxpaying, law-abiding citizens. It improves the overall image of America internationally, as it is seen as an open, welcoming country and immigrants who return home or maintain contact with family back home have a true image of America, not the one propagandized in much of the international media. Adding an additional group of cheap labor adds to the flexibility of business, leading to cheaper prices, better quality products, and higher profits. It gives struggling people all over the world an opportunity for a better life. This country was built on immigrants who sought opportunity, political & religious freedom, etc.

Yes, Immigration laws should be tough if they have to bring some good to the society, but must also be flexible and intelligent – however, the more intelligent they’re, the more they’ll labeled as tough by the law breakers. Of course, if someone is entering my house to earn a leaving, he’ll have to follow my rulebook. With globalization playing a major role in free movement of tangible and intangible goods – no nation can live without immigration. As unbridled immigration has led to social tensions, xenophobia, and conflicts about national identity, in many developed countries – the laws should take care of the interest of all. The European Union allows free migration between member states, but there are restrictions, which apparently maintain the sanctity of the very purpose of immigration otherwise hell would break loose – the condition in UK and USA is the living proof.

It is right that immigration is the way to avail the best minds available around the globe. However, coin has the other side too, which is quite disfigured, I must say, as it prompts brain drain, leaving lesser-developed countries again time and again in the throes of poverty and darkness of ignorance. Therefore, migration should be there but with some restrictions.

Yes, of course, there should be strict immigration laws because illegal immigration puts burden on tax-based resources, costing taxpayers billions of dollars. As fleeing spree among criminals is coming in fashion very swiftly, hence to tighten the noose on offenders and nipping down fake document mills, firm immigration rules would help the situation. To stop widespread disparity between legal immigrants who follow the rules and those who don’t is another boon. Moreover, it lessens the risk of death while traveling the desert to reach the borders.

I don’t think tougher immigration laws would be fruitful in the modern era of globalization. Immigration of skilled people not only keeps the economy moving by filling low-wage jobs, provides a better lifestyle for those who enter the country illegally and creates a pool of consumers for a variety of goods and services, however, illegal immigrants contribute to mortgage loan profits contributions to social security funds often go unclaimed, rent properties in depressed areas where renters are hard to find and pay different taxes, thus helping the economic as well as cultural development of the particular society.

I think tough immigration law is important. Even though the western nations require immigrants, there has to be a system to support the newcomers. Many illegal immigrants come here for a better life but they end up living in extreme poverty. Many of them start taking part into crimi

Yes, immigration laws must be strict but side-by-side it should be flexible and intelligent.A well balanced law can help to filter out the evils of the society and can make the process faster for the good ones.Only strict law can’t prevent the evils until or unless there is a good filter. This is required to reduce unnecessary harassments to the really needy people.

In my opinion, strict laws in todays world is a must. Especially with terrorism and other peace threatening methods sky rocketing on a daily basis, laws are important for a country’s peace. There are a lot of arguments on how much these laws cause a problem for normal individuals to migrate from one place to another. But to see from the other side, agreed the procedures are long and stringent, but if you come to think of it its worth the wait than to kill millions of life.
Putting citizens lives under threat because of prospective immigrants hue and cry doesnt seem to be worth at all. It is not that the country is denying the provision of immigration, its only laws which ensure that the nation is safe from any prospective harm to national security. If a country is taking steps towards promoting and ensuring national peace, I think that these are the right measures. Its obvious with time and technology, the governments of various country will up their procedures and ensure that it is not as time consuming as it is these days. But people around the globe need to understand the importance of laws especially when it considers the country’s peace.
