United States :

Yes:
# The extensive network of public surveillance cameras help in intercepting a threat coming our way.
# Use of web of surveillance has been turning into an important crime-fighting tool, touting usefulness of the technology in human security.
No:
# With surveillance cameras all around, privacy may have to be redefined as we will always remain under bird’s eye view while walking down the streets.
# The accumulated data could well be used indiscriminately on individuals as most of the private security agencies often fell short of accountability.

i am like...in a fix. see there are cameras all over the place- in the parks, railway stations, not to mention airports but when we'll be having these threatening pieces watching each and every aspect of our lives...i think we can be safe but i fear if the girl i am kissing in the back of my car is a daughter/wife/sister of the surveillance inspector. i think it can lead to murders.

If you want to live in a surveillance society, then you should be living in an open society. Make all surveillance publicly available to all the citizens. No secrets, no power.

If security were truly a priority, the citizens would be given more power. The common person, when properly educated and given the tools, would be far more effective at fighting things like crime and terrorism. Unfortunately, it’s to create a feeling of compliance in the general populace. We just adjust to the controls and go with the flow. Sad but true.

The question is not how could our leaders be so blind to the dangers of a surveillance society? The dangers only affect the 'people' and our leaders no longer consider themselves to be part of that group.

We are willingly giving up freedom for safety, is that safe? We're moving in the direction of having the government turn us into a society that's under constant surveillance. wtf is wrong with u ppl.

are we trying to justify illegal actions of our government by saying that there are people who wants to kill us all. If as a country we think that giving up some of our rights or changing some laws to combat such people in the world, then we should do that, but there is no excuse for our government's illegal actions. Changing laws to combat evils is reasonable, I think, but ignoring laws erodes democracy.

Surveillance society is not the key to world peace. Although it will help in some cases, but it is not the main solution to the ongoing crises that we face.
World peace starts in the proper implementation of laws and the guarding of people’s rights as a human being.
Usually, problems come from inequality and abuse of other people. Wrongdoings that are left unattended are the usual culprits in riots and debates.
Freedom of expression hampered by fear and conflicts is another factor to consider.
World peace can be achieved by strengthening human relations toward understanding differences and physical barriers.
As imperfections in this world are present, we need to work toward the common good of implementing norms to follow and rules to enforce so that an orderly way of living can be attained.
